Hosted by H.E. Dr. Andreas Baum, Ambassador of Switzerland in Egypt, with the presence of senior government dignitaries and private sector leaders, «Nestlé Egypt», «People of Now», and «engazaat» officially launched the Sustainability 101: Think Business Summit in Cairo.
A Strategic Platform for Sustainability and Regeneration
The event took place at the Swiss Residence in Cairo. It featured a welcome address by H.E. Dr. Andreas Baum, followed by a keynote from Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, UN Special Envoy on Financing the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and Honorary Chairman of «engazaat».
This launch gathered representatives from the corporate sector, NGOs, and government institutions. Discussions focused on reframing sustainability as a regenerative and revenue-generating strategy for both businesses and communities in Egypt and across the region.
At the core of this mission lies the Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus, highlighting the importance of integrated approaches. The summit also aims to spotlight grassroots innovators and empower them to turn environmental and social challenges into opportunities for growth and resilience.
Swiss Ambassador Highlights Nestlé’s Role
In his remarks, H.E. Dr. Andreas Baum emphasized:
“«Nestlé Egypt» has proven to be not only a gold sponsor of our Embassy’s programs but also a true partner and friend. With initiatives like Sustainability 101, the company shows that reducing environmental impact and supporting communities can align with building resilient economies.”
Panel Discussion: Beyond Sustainability
The launch featured a flagship panel titled “Beyond Sustainability: Business, Innovation, and the Future of Regeneration.”
Participants included:
-
Mr. Tarek Kamel, Chairman and Managing Director of «Nestlé Egypt & Sudan»
-
Mr. Amr Mansi, Founder & CEO of «People of Now» | Egypt Entrepreneur Awards (EEA)
-
Mr. Muhammad El Demerdash, Co-Founder & CEO of «engazaat | The Solar Water Company»
Nestlé Egypt’s Perspective
Mr. Tarek Kamel noted the absence of a unified platform bringing together stakeholders with a focused approach to sustainability. He confirmed that «Nestlé Egypt» is addressing this gap by partnering with «engazaat» and «People of Now» to create long-term initiatives, not just a one-day event.
People of Now’s Vision
Mr. Amr Mansi highlighted that «People of Now» turned entrepreneurship into a celebrated movement in Egypt, and now aims to do the same for sustainability. He expressed confidence that global companies and financial institutions will join the platform to amplify its impact.
engazaat’s Commitment
Mr. Muhammad El Demerdash explained that «engazaat» began with the question: how to achieve more with fewer resources? Over 14 years, the company proved that sustainability is profitable and practical. Today, «engazaat» focuses on spreading knowledge to make regenerative models accessible for farmers, companies, and communities.
Next Steps Toward the December Summit
This launch marks the first step toward the inaugural Sustainability 101: Think Business Summit, scheduled for December. The summit will explore sustainability further through panel discussions and actionable solutions.
