Coca-Cola partners with the Ministry of Environment to help reduce waste in Egypt

Cairo, Egypt – September 29, 2025:

The Coca-Cola Company in Egypt has signed a partnership with the Waste Management Regulatory Authority (WMRA) under the Ministry of Environment to launch a waste collection project.
The initiative aims to reduce waste in Egypt’s water canals. It is part of a national program led by the Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with WMRA and the Consultant Engineering Office (CEO).

How the waste collection project works

As part of the partnership, Coca-Cola will provide tricycles to local waste collectors. Under WMRA supervision, collectors will target hotspots across Qalyubia and Giza.
This waste collection project will also integrate waste into national recycling value chains. At the same time, it creates job opportunities for locals while raising awareness about sustainable waste management practices.

Coca-Cola’s sustainability commitment

The project reflects Coca-Cola’s global ambition to reduce packaging waste. The company aims to collect 70–75% of bottles and cans placed in the market by 2035.
Hanna Haddad, General Manager of Coca-Cola Company in Egypt, said:

“We remain committed to creating shared value for our business and the communities we serve. Through collaboration with local and global partners, we will expand design innovations, improve collection models, invest in local infrastructure, and work with policymakers to reduce packaging waste.”

Alignment with Egypt Vision 2030

This initiative supports Egypt Vision 2030 and the national sustainability agenda. It highlights joint action from government, civil society, and the private sector to achieve measurable outcomes in environmental protection.
Coca-Cola confirmed it will continue to invest in local waste management infrastructure and strengthen cooperation with policymakers.
