Huawei Northern Africa Operations Transformation Forum (OTF) 2026 was successfully held in Barcelona, Spain, under the theme “Unified Entry & All-Intelligent Operations Ignite New Growth.” The event brought together more than 100 representatives from governments, telecom operators, and industry organizations to discuss the digital and intelligent transformation of African operators and share global best practices.
During the forum, Huawei and leading African telecom operators jointly launched the “Northern Africa Digital Operation Transformation Pioneer Club 2.0,” marking a new phase in the region’s telecom digital transformation journey.
In his opening remarks, Lucas Lu, Vice President of Huawei Global Technical Service, highlighted that as artificial intelligence becomes a pervasive core driver across industries, the telecom sector is entering a new era of intelligence. He emphasized that operators must reshape value creation, enhance user experience, and transform business models through digital intelligent services and AI-enabled end-to-end operations.
Aaron Boasman, Vice President of TM Forum, stated that AI is transforming operators from “traffic pipes” into “intelligent platforms.” He noted that operators who first integrate AI into network operations, customer care, and mobile money scenarios will be able to turn cost centers into profit engines and convert user entry points into ecosystem gateways.
Eric Yuan, President of Huawei Northern Africa Delivery & Service, underscored that Huawei has developed an E.B.O.I-driven (Entry, Business, Operations, and Infrastructure) digital and intelligent transformation solution tailored for African operators. The solution aims to reshape future business models in the AI and 5G era. By leveraging AI technologies, Huawei enhances network performance, improves user experience, innovates in operations and maintenance (O&M), and enriches digital life scenarios. Through the creation of Super Apps and AI-powered unified entry points, Huawei supports operators in seizing new opportunities and achieving sustainable, win-win growth.
Yin Shaochun, Deputy General Manager of the Marketing Department at China Unicom, Bruk Adhana, Chief Mobile Money Business Officer of Ethio Telecom, and Lassaad Ben Dhieb, Chairman and CEO of Tunisie Telecom Group, shared their insights on AI and cloud service transformation, digital business innovation, and growth driven by 5G infrastructure, highlighting the critical role of these technologies in accelerating industry transformation.
Chris Meng, President of Huawei Northern Africa ICT Marketing & Solution Sales, together with CXOs from leading operators, discussed the impact of AI on network operations and maintenance. Experts agreed that AI is no longer just an IT tool but a strategic imperative for operators—starting with cost reduction and efficiency enhancement, then leveraging AI for data monetization, and ultimately evolving toward an integrated ecosystem model. By building AI Agents, operators can create a super digital entry point for intelligent living, offering users a wide range of advanced digital services and next-level experiences.
At the closing ceremony, Lucas Lu and Jim Liu, President of Huawei Northern Africa Carrier Business, joined BENIDIR AMIR, CMO of Algeria Telecom, Hicham Ennoure, Vice CEO of Gabon Moov Money, Lassaad Ben Dhieb of Tunisie Telecom Group, and Bruk Adhana of Ethio Telecom to officially launch the Northern Africa Digital Operation Transformation Pioneer Club 2.0. The initiative aims to leverage global best practices and unite operator leaders and experts to accelerate digital and intelligent transformation across Africa.
In his closing speech, Jim Liu emphasized that AI-driven unified entry and end-to-end intelligent operations are no longer experimental concepts but operational imperatives. He noted that these capabilities empower telecom operators to accelerate transformation, create new value streams, and ignite sustainable growth across the African continent.
