Dr. Weee Opens First Refurbished Devices and Green Technology Showroom in Cairo

Cairo, September 2025:

Dr. Weee, an Egyptian platform, announced the grand opening of its first physical store for refurbished and eco-friendly devices in the Giza area of Cairo. This step reflects the company’s commitment to leading the green technology sector and electronic waste management through innovative solutions that combine environmental and economic benefits.

The opening is part of Dr. Weee’s efforts to expand the availability of eco-friendly products for Egyptian consumers, at a time when there is a growing need for sustainable solutions that align with Egypt’s 2030 Sustainable Development Vision.

Eng. Essam Hashem, CEO of Dr. Weee, stated that this milestone is the culmination of years of diligent work in e-waste collection and recycling, along with the development of innovative digital solutions that serve both the environment and the economy. He explained that the platform not only focuses on simplifying administrative procedures and supporting digital transformation but also on addressing the complex environmental challenges posed by increasing technology consumption and rapid advancements in the electronics market. He noted that the “magic” of green IT lies in its direct contribution to sustainable development and the protection of natural resources.

“What we are building at Dr. Weee is not just an alternative to traditional waste management solutions; it is a new economic model based on directly and transparently connecting consumers with recycling companies,” said Hashem. “This creates greater value for consumers who benefit financially from disposing of their old devices, and it ensures that recycling companies receive larger quantities of materials, contributing to a complete circular economy. We are adopting the circular economy concept promoted by the United Nations, which is based on recovering and re-using resources instead of losing them as useless waste.”

Hashem added, “Our fundamental philosophy is that every old device can be transformed into a refurbished product that meets global standards. This proves that waste is not the end of a life cycle, but a new beginning for both economic and environmental value.”

He pointed out that the new location on Al-Haram Street allows consumers to explore the platform’s range of eco-friendly products and services, most notably Printology, a brand of alternative printing ink cartridges. These products are high-quality, up to 50% cheaper than traditional cartridges, and contribute to reducing emissions and protecting the environment from the hazards of e-waste. He emphasized that having a physical collection and sales point is a strategic addition to Dr. Weee’s business model, as it provides the platform with direct access to consumers and enables the collection of larger quantities of recyclable e-waste.

Hashem stressed that the key advantage of Dr. Weee’s products is their blend of economic viability and positive environmental impact, as consumers get a more affordable and sustainable product at the same time. He added that this balance makes raising public awareness about the value of recycling more effective. He also explained that the platform operates through digital channels, including its website and online services, in addition to a fleet of equipped vehicles for direct collection from customers, which highlights the flexibility and integration of their service.

Regarding expansion plans, the CEO confirmed that Dr. Weee started in Greater Cairo and is preparing to expand to Alexandria soon, with future plans to cover Upper Egypt to meet the growing demand for sustainable solutions. He also noted the importance of international cooperation, explaining that partnerships with the Canadian company Green Solutions and the Italian company EcoVanguard add significant value to the Egyptian market.

These partnerships facilitate the transfer of global expertise and advanced technologies in e-waste and construction and demolition waste recycling, in addition to contributing to pioneering projects like carbon credit trading and the implementation of sustainable development strategies.
Eng. Essam Hashem concluded by saying, “Our message is simple and clear: don’t treat your old device as mere waste, because it represents real economic value that can be recovered. With Dr. Weee, you are not only protecting the environment but also preserving your finances and benefiting directly.”
