Crédit Agricole Egypt Reports Standalone Q1 2026 Results

Q1 2026 was marked by elevated global uncertainty, driven by ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and continued disruption in global trade flows since Q2 2025. These developments, alongside persistent supply chain pressures and commodity price volatility, are expected to weigh on global growth and inflation, keeping central banks in both developed and emerging markets in a cautious policy stance.

In Egypt, real GDP growth is expected to moderate to around 4.8%–5.0% in Q1 2026, compared to 5.3% in Q4 2025. Growth continues to be supported by non-petroleum manufacturing, trade, and communications, though regional risks are expected to keep growth below potential for a longer period. Inflationary pressures remain relatively contained in the short term, according to the Central Bank of Egypt Monetary Policy Committee release dated April 2, 2026.

Strong Commercial Performance Across All Segments

Crédit Agricole Egypt delivered solid commercial growth in Q1 2026, with gross loans rising 17% year-on-year to EGP 68.4 billion, while customer deposits increased 26% year-on-year to EGP 119.6 billion.

Corporate banking maintained strong momentum, with lending up EGP 7.5 billion (+17% YoY) and deposits growing by EGP 16.5 billion (+28% YoY), supported by disciplined risk management and diversified client engagement.

Retail banking also posted strong performance, with loans increasing 14% YoY and deposits rising 23% YoY, driven by marketing initiatives, new product launches, and customer acquisition strategies. Active customers increased 4% YoY, supported by enhanced digital capabilities and targeted product offerings across segments including youth, private banking, women, and travelers.

Income and Profitability Performance

Net Banking Income increased 6% YoY to EGP 3.616 billion, supported by higher net interest income (+2%) and strong growth in other operating income (+83%), mainly driven by foreign exchange gains linked to higher market volatility.

Gross Operating Income rose 4% YoY to EGP 2.645 billion. Operating expenses increased 15% YoY in line with inflationary pressures, leading to a cost-to-income ratio of 26.8% compared to 24.8% in the same period last year.

Cost of risk stood at EGP 230 million, reflecting normalized risk levels following portfolio growth. Net profit before tax increased 2% YoY, while net profit declined 4% YoY due to a higher effective tax rate. On a sequential basis, net profit declined slightly by 1%, despite improvements in banking income and operating income.

Asset Quality, Capital Strength, and Liquidity

The bank maintained strong financial fundamentals, with a non-performing loan ratio of 2.3% in Q1 2026, reflecting solid asset quality, prudent risk management, and strong capital buffers well above regulatory requirements.

Digital Transformation Acceleration

Crédit Agricole Egypt continued to advance its digital transformation strategy through the enhancement of its “banki” mobile application, delivering a fully redesigned, user-centric banking experience.

During Q1 2026, the bank introduced key digital features including instant deposit booking, fully digital onboarding for banking products, and real-time transfers, significantly improving customer experience.

The bank also expanded its payment acceptance solution “banki Commerce”, supporting Egypt’s transition toward a less-cash economy, processing over 105,000 e-commerce transactions since launch. Digital engagement remained strong, with 49% of corporate and SME clients active digitally and continued growth in digital transaction volumes.

Crédit Agricole Egypt was certified as a “Top Employer” for the second consecutive year by the Top Employers Institute, reflecting excellence in HR practices, talent development, diversity and inclusion, and employee well-being.

Sustainability and Community Impact

The bank published its 5th Sustainability Report aligned with GRI standards and integrated reporting frameworks. Under its “One for Us and One for the Community” initiative, Crédit Agricole Egypt continued its social impact programs, including youth empowerment initiatives and financial literacy sessions aimed at enhancing employability and inclusion.
